New York , Massive fire engulfs Hamilton Heights building

A fire heavily damaged a Hamilton Heights apartment building Friday, displacing residents and sending a massive plume of smoke into the sky.
The five-alarm fire broke out at 565 W. 144th St., near Broadway, just before 3:15 p.m., according to fire officials. The fire was not under control, as of 6:15 p.m.

More than 200 firefighters responded to the scene, an FDNY spokesman said.

Three firefighters sustained minor injuries, according to the FDNY. One civilian also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All four were taken to area hospitals.

The American Red Cross of Greater New York is helping residents who were displaced by the fire. The organization set up a reception center at PS 153, located at 1750 Amsterdam Ave New York .
